On January 15, 2025, according to Reuters, chipmaker Intel Corporation announced on Tuesday that it plans to spin off its venture capital and investment department, Intel Capital, into an independent company.

Intel said that the new company will operate as an independent entity and is expected to begin formal operations in the second half of 2025 and will adopt a new name. The existing Intel Capital team will move to the new company as a whole to continue its professional work in the field of venture capital.

David Zinsner, Intel's interim co-CEO and chief financial officer, said that the separation of Intel Capital is a "win-win situation." He explained that the change will provide the fund with access to new sources of capital to expand its franchise while ensuring that the two companies can continue to benefit from a long-term and fruitful strategic partnership.

Founded in 1991, Intel Capital currently manages more than $5 billion in assets. The department mainly invests in four areas of the technology ecosystem: silicon wafers, cutting-edge technologies, devices and clouds. Over the years, Intel Capital has played an important role in many innovative companies and promoted the continued development of the technology industry.
