9 common tea aromas, how many do you know?

1. Hair aroma

The white hair of dry tea is exposed, and the unique aroma emitted when brewing is called "hair aroma". All fresh leaves with white hair are tenderer than one bud and one leaf.

Representative teas: Junshan Yinzhen, Huangshan Maofeng, Baihao Yinzhen, etc.


2. Tender aroma

The fresh leaves are fresh and soft, with one bud and two leaves just unfolding. Teas made in a timely and reasonable manner often have tender aromas. Teas with tender aromas include E Rui, various Maojian, Maofeng tea, etc.

Representative teas: Duyun Maojian, Ziyang Maojian, Huangshan Maofeng, Yandang Maofeng, etc.


3. Flower aroma

The tenderness of fresh leaves is one bud and two leaves, and the tea making is reasonable. The tea emits similar aromas of various flowers.

Representative tea: Keemun black tea, one of the three most fragrant black teas in the world, has a pleasant and unique floral and fruity aroma, and is named "Qimen Fragrance".



4. Fruity aroma

The tea leaves exude various fruity aromas, such as peach, peach, snow pear, bergamot, orange, plum, citron, pineapple, longan, apple, etc. Northern Fujian green tea and some varieties of tea belong to this aroma type, and black tea often has apple aroma.

Representative tea: Bailin Gongfu, Dianhong Gongfu, etc.


5. Light fragrance type

The tenderness of fresh leaves is one bud, two or three leaves, and the tea making is timely and normal. This aroma type includes light fragrance, noble, pure, upright, fresh, etc. Light fragrance is the typical aroma type of green tea. In addition, a few yellow teas with less stuffiness and insufficient drying and fire work also belong to this aroma type.

Representative tea: Zhuyeqing, Enshi Yulu, Mengding Huangya


6. Sweet aroma type

The tenderness of fresh leaves is one bud, two or three leaves, and the black tea making method. Sweet aroma type is the typical aroma type of Gongfu black tea. This aroma type includes fresh sweet aroma, sweet flower aroma, dried fruit aroma, sweet date aroma, orange aroma, honey aroma, longan aroma, etc.

Representative tea: Yihong Gongfu, Dianhong Gongfu, Minhong Gongfu, etc.



7. Fire aroma type

The fresh leaves are older and contain more stems. The baking temperature is high and sufficient during the manufacturing process, and the sugars are caramelized. This aroma type includes rice cake aroma, high fire aroma, old fire aroma and rice crust aroma.

Representative tea: Huangda tea, Wuyi rock tea and Gulao tea, etc.


8. Aged aroma type

The fresh leaves are older, and there is a process of aging and mellowing in the manufacturing process.

Representative tea: Guangxi Liubao tea, Pu'er tea and most compressed teas



9. Pine smoke aroma

Tea that is smoked with pine, cypress, maple balls, yellow rattan, etc. during the manufacturing and drying process generally has a pine smoke aroma.

Representative teas: Lapsang Souchong black tea, Weishan Maojian, Liubao tea, and black tea, etc.
