Nine simple and practical tips for healthy eating

By: HSEclub NewsJan 08, 2025

We are all so busy nowadays that we don't have any time for ourselves. Our bodies are slowly breaking down and damaging our health. Here are some of our favorite health tips.

1. Chia seeds should have a place in your diet.

In 2022, as chia seeds are popular again, this super seed has appeared in puddings, pretzels, jams, and TikTok trends. Experts say chia seeds can't be over-hyped: they are rich in fiber and rich in antioxidants. You can add a spoonful of chia seeds to your smoothie or soak them in plant milk as a snack.

2. You don't need to throw away all your berries.

A moldy strawberry may look disgusting, but unless the other berries in the box show obvious signs of spores, you can still store them in the refrigerator - but check carefully before eating to see if they are hairy.

3. Drinking coffee in the morning makes you feel good.

Researchers found that people who drank 1.5 to 3.5 cups of coffee a day, even with a teaspoon of sugar in their coffee, were 30 percent less likely to die during the study period than non-coffee drinkers—yet another reason to reach for your first (or second, or third) cup of coffee of the day.

4. Natural wine may not actually be for you.

There’s little research to support the claim that natural wine improves gut health, and a hangover is a hangover whether you drink natural or conventional wine.

5. Food can help hydrate you.

You don’t need to rely solely on water to stay hydrated; your favorite fruits and vegetables are also great sources of hydration. Eat more melon, strawberries, oranges, grapes, cucumbers, or celery.

6. Limit your intake of processed meats.

The occasional hot dog isn’t going to hurt your health, but processed meats have been linked to cancer, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease. Plant-based alternatives are a safer bet, but not all: You need to find options that are as least processed as possible.

7. Make whole grains a staple.

Most Americans still don't eat enough whole grains, but you can do the opposite by adding high-fiber foods like oats or corn to your diet. One slice of whole-wheat bread, a half cup of cooked oatmeal, and three cups of popcorn combined will meet the daily recommended intake of whole grains.

8. Switch up your afternoon tea with matcha.

This brightly colored green tea powder is fairly common, and while there's no definitive research showing it's a health food, matcha may have some benefits, including providing a rich source of antioxidants and a high dose of caffeine.

9. Avoid sticky snacks.

Dried fruit, candies, gummies—these foods can get stuck between your teeth, trapping sugars in your mouth and encouraging bacterial growth. Still, there are steps you can take to prevent cavities, including chewing sugar-free gum and gulping down sugary drinks—rather than sipping them slowly.
