When 263 sets of clothing with different styles appeared on the runway of the 2025 undergraduate graduation show "A Common Thread" of Parsons School of Fashion Design, the audience witnessed a profound dialogue about the essence of fashion.

This exhibition named "Common Thread" aptly shows how the new generation of designers find a balance between collective consciousness and individual expression - they are like a group of contemporary textile philosophers, using needles and threads to explore the eternal proposition of individuality and commonality.

At the moment when the dystopian breastplate and the childlike knight's armor are juxtaposed, a wonderful fashion dialectic jumps onto the stage. These young creators seem to have mastered some kind of secret alchemy, which can melt the seemingly contradictory protection and playfulness into one furnace.

Those street clothes inlaid with gas mask elements are not only a metaphor for the current social anxiety, but also a rebellious fashion statement; and those queen and knight styles that come out of fairy tales transform childhood fantasies into wearable works of art through exaggerated silhouettes and dramatic fabric processing.

The collision of see-through clothing and western style, the fusion of sports and leisure and functional style, these elements are not accidental. Designers show their precise grasp of the pulse of fashion. Their works are like a prism, reflecting the diverse spectrum of Z generation consumer culture. It is particularly noteworthy that these students do not simply pile up popular elements, but use unique fabric reconstruction technology - perhaps some innovative hot pressing molding process, or experimental dyeing method - to give each work an unrepeatable personal imprint.

Behind those seemingly random folds, there are often calculations accurate to millimeters; those futuristic silhouettes are actually the result of deconstructing and reassembling traditional tailoring techniques.

The theme of "A Common Thread" is a subtle pun in itself - it refers to the yarn that runs through the textiles, and also implies the common ideas that connect this generation of designers. They share a focus on sustainable materials, a commitment to inclusive design, and a dedication to combining traditional craftsmanship with modern technology.

However, this "common thread" does not constrain their creativity, but instead becomes the basis for each person to show their uniqueness. Just like in music, the same chord progression can derive countless melodies. These young designers have composed unique fashion movements against the same background of the times.
